Bennetts Classic TT practice week nears completion

Posted: 23 Aug 2013

The Bennetts Classic TT practice week continued last night under glorious sunshine, with riders in all categories keen to get some more vital track time on the infamous Mountain Course ahead of the first races on Saturday.

However, TT legend John McGuinness suffered more technical woes during yesterday’s session – having already missed Wednesday evening’s practice due to an electrical fault with his Team Winfield Paton. Despite being the first away, he was forced to retire at Quarterbridge. And he wasn’t alone as other retirements on the opening lap included Norton’s Michael Dunlop, Mark Parrett and James Hillier.

With Morecambe rider McGuinness out of the 500cc session it was Olie Linsdell who posted the fastest lap of 110.442 mph. Norton’s Bruce Anstey, Chris Palmer and Cameron Donald also posted their fastest times of the week (107.927 mph, 106.959 mph and 106.040 mph respectively).

In the Motorsport Merchandise Formula 1 class, it was Kawasaki’s John Barton who was first back to the grandstand, while Yamaha’s Steve Mercer posted his fastest lap of the week with 117.556 mph – the fastest lap of the evening.

In the Motorsport Merchandise Formula 2 class, Palmer finished top of the class with 110.818 mph from 2012 Newcomer C MGP Racer winner James Cowton (110.301 mph), Shaun Anderson (105.608 mph) and Chris Barrett (102.235 mph).

Tonight’s session begins with the Classic TT, Lightweight and Newcomers B and C at 18.20 with the Senior, Junior, SuperTwin and Newcomers A out at 19.05.
